Mercari seller fees in 2026, explained

Mercari restructured its fees on January 6, 2025. Here's what a seller pays now:

FeeRateApplies toPaid by
Selling fee10%Item price + buyer-paid shippingSeller
Payment processing$0 — removed Jan 6, 2025
Buyer Protection fee3.6%Item + buyer-paid shippingBuyer

The key change most sellers miss: the 10% selling fee now applies to the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, not just the item price. So a $100 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping is charged 10% of $108 = $10.80, not $10.00.

Mercari also dropped the payment-processing fee that buyers used to pay and replaced it with a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee. That one is charged to the buyer, so it doesn't come out of your payout — but it does raise the buyer's total. On the seller side, the 10% is the whole story.

A note on the transition: listings created before Jan 6, 2025 kept the old terms until they were updated — but Mercari auto-updated existing listings within about a week, so in practice the 10% structure applies to everything now.

Finally, free shipping: if you offer it, there's no buyer-paid shipping for the 10% to apply to, but you cover the label yourself — so a $20 sale with a $5 label nets $20 − $2 fee − $5 label = $13. Enter your shipping cost above to see the honest profit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Mercari take per sale?

Since Jan 6, 2025: 10% of the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping. A $100 item with free shipping costs $10 (keep $90); with $10 buyer-paid shipping the fee is 10% of $110 = $11. No separate seller processing fee.

Did Mercari change its fees in 2025?

Yes — on Jan 6, 2025 it moved to a 10% selling fee on item + buyer-paid shipping, removed the buyer's payment-processing fee, and added a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee that the buyer pays. Old listings were auto-updated to the new terms within about a week.

Does Mercari charge a fee on shipping?

Yes now — the 10% applies to buyer-paid shipping as well as the item. With free shipping there's nothing extra for the fee to hit, but you pay the label; add it as a cost above for real profit.

How much should I list for to take home $X?

Use reverse mode and enter your target. With free shipping, list at target ÷ 0.90 — so about $111.11 to net $100.
